Meet the Creator behind Radical Creatures

Laura May is one talented human.

Not only is she a compassionate anti-diet dietitian but she designs and creates fun, empowering earrings, pins, stickers and sun catchers for fellow diet culture dropouts.

A diet culture dropout myself, I was thrilled when Laura reached out to tell me about her plans to rebrand and relaunch her Shopify accessories store.

This was not Laura’s first e-commerce rodeo

She had already dipped her feet into selling physical products under the brand The Perfect Pear.

But what started as a side project during COVID, Laura had bigger plans for.

“[The Perfect Pear] website was honestly pretty boring. I wanted it to be more than a company that sells accessories. I wanted it to be a brand that gives people confidence and helps them believe they deserve peace in their bodies.”

To grow and evolve, Laura knew The Perfect Pear needed a big glow-up.

Enlisting the help of illustrator Kajal, The Perfect Pear became Radical Creatures.

Laura realised that having a launch Project Manager would allow her to focus on what she does best

Armed with her new branding, Laura realised the amount of work still ahead of her to launch.

“My experience working with Nina was even better than expected, because what I had asked her to help me with was the copywriting for my website and doing the techie stuff on the website that I didn’t understand and didn’t have the time to learn how to do. But when I told Nina that I was struggling with just the size of the project and how much that needed to be done, she offered to take on a project management role.

And that was absolutely game-changing.”

How I helped Laura as her Launch Project Manager, Copywriter & Tech Support

After meeting with Laura and learning about all the moving pieces to the rebrand and launch she had on her plate, I decided a bespoke package that included the launch project management component would be the best fit.

Project Management

I got ALL the stuff out of Laura’s head and into a project plan custom-built in Notion (my new productivity tool obsession), broke everything down into manageable tasks and worked milestones and timelines around her upcoming wedding (yes, Laura was biz-ee!)

Along the way, we caught up for quick project meetings so that we got everything done and ready for the launch date decided at the start of the project.

Copywriting

Laura originally brought me on board to write her:

  • About page copy;
  • Launch waitlist landing page copy, and
  • An email welcome sequence

But after going through the planning process, she agreed that launching an e-comm store without product description copy was a missed opportunity, so she added that to my list!

Getting to embody Laura’s cheeky and warm brand voice to write ALL. THE. COPY. was one of my most favourite parts of this project.

“The copywriting is perfect. Nina perfectly captured the tone of my brand, which is fun and playful, but also meant to be empowering.”

Tech Support

Once we had the plan and the copy, I needed to turn everything into a storefront! I did that by:

  • Configuring Shopify with the new branding
  • Designing and building a custom launch waitlist landing page
  • Building Laura’s About Page (including getting my hands dirty coding sections for a custom design)
  • Installing Laura’s new About page copy on Shopify
  • Connecting up all the tech between Shopify and Klayvio
  • Setting up Laura’s new email welcome sequence to automatically go out to new subscribers
